Loyalist or Patriot:

The Boston Tea Party Web Question

"To be, or not to be, that is the question." -- William Shakespeare

"To tea dump, or not to tea dump, that is another question." –- Ms. Alter

You've all heard the saying, “There are two sides to every story.”  This is usually true, no matter how many people will tell you that there is only one right point of view in any argument or conflict.   It’s important to study all the opposing sides of every event when we study history. Why?  As Edmund Burke, famous Irish statesman was known to say, "Those who don't know history are condemned to repeat it."  And we certainly don’t want to repeat our history of wars, oppression, poverty, and struggle. We constantly re-examine our nation's historic decisions so that we can avoid past tragedies. In the same spirit of understanding we ask whether the Boston Tea Party was the best way to achieve a fair and necessary end?  Did everyone affected by this act of protest have his/her interests met, or were there many innocent victims who were harmed in the celebrated historic event? Was the Tea Party a necessary route toward achieving independence?  It depends on the side you take.  Examine the evidence, take a side, and report your findings in your online poster board, Glogster.

To proceed with your project, visit the 5 Task Boxes on left navigation bar, in the order in which they appear. Begin with Task Box 1!

Time to get Glogging!

Now that you have completed your research, it's time to state your position on your Glogster.  Are you a Patriot or a Loyalist?  Which group would you defend?  Use the evidence gathered in your resarch (photos, quotes, primary documents, historic diaries) to illustrate which group represented the most convincing arguments in the decision to dump tea.  Log in to your Glog account by selecting the image below.  If you forgot your password or log in, ask your teacher for assistance.
